Files and images
Attach text, code and images to a message, and keep the images a model generates.

Attach a file
Click the paperclip, paste, or drop files on the message box. Text and code files go into your message as file context, so the model reads them in full. Images go to the model as images.
Images need a model the gateway reports as vision-capable. The check applies to later turns too: once a chat has images, the model you switch to must also have vision. With Auto, the gateway sends image messages to a vision model.
Chat stores your files privately to your account, in its database or in the administrator's storage bucket, and never fetches a file from a URL. Only PDFs and PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images open in the browser; any other file downloads, and text of any kind (HTML, XML, JSON, code) comes as plain text. Settings › Personal › Your files lists them with how much of your allowance they use.
For documents you want to search across chats, or that are larger than an attachment can be, use Knowledge collections instead.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per message | 4 |
| One text or code file | 256 KiB |
| One image | 5 MiB |
| Your files in total | 100 files and 50 MiB |
| Text the model sees per request | 100 KiB, including attachments and instructions |
| Images the model sees per request | 20 MiB, encoded |
A file can fit the upload allowance and still be too large for one request's text context; Chat then refuses the message rather than cutting the file.
A file a conversation still uses can't be deleted. Branches keep their file references, and an export includes the file bytes, so an import gets new private copies.
Images a model generates
When a model calls the gateway's generate_image tool, the picture arrives inside the reply. Chat stores it and saves the reply with a link that only you can open, so later turns and exports carry the link, not the picture.
Library › Generated lists every image models made for you. Each one can be up to 8 MB, you have 512 MB in total, and an image is deleted with its conversation. See Image generation for turning the tool on in the gateway.
